The first blogger that I started following that posted a lot of pictures of her children was Dooce, way back when. I started following her before she had kids, in fact, and love her still. She is a super talented writer and photographer. I also follow another amazing writer, The Bloggess, who had to move into a gated community due to a stalker issue. Now both of these bloggers have little girls, and it got me thinking, how much do you share? When I started this blog, as well as my Bangor Daily News blog, I had to really think about how much to expose of my personal family life…which was hard, y’all. My natural inclination is to OVERSHARE ALL THE THINGS. But there are some seriously damaged people out there and where my kids are concerned, it’s an easy call.
Minimal pictures, zero school information, zero schedule information. I know lots of bloggers who do daily posts with tons of kid pics. Pictures of what their kid wore, how her hair was done, what she did on the school playground…I can’t get on board with that on a public blog, but I do post the occasional picture of them, which I enjoy. The way I see it, if you’re on my FB page, you see more than enough pictures of the girls. Probably more than you want to. I am a picture freak and take at least 20 a day of one thing or another. But as the girls get older…it’s also a privacy issue for them. They don’t want Mom telling strangers about their daily lives, dramas and foibles or showing people pictures of them online. The teen years, you guys…oy..they’re harshing my creative writing opportunities.

This is the norm from her now.
So all of this pretty much makes me a hypocrite, because I love blogs with tons of pictures, it makes me feel like I know the blogger better and understand where she’s coming from more clearly. But yet I’m not going to post a ton of pictures of my own kiddos. What do you guys think? How much exposure is too much as far as kids go?
